note-to-selfYou are always reading insights about you as well as what’s up with people and causes that we wholeheartedly support. But time to time people ask about who I am and how I feel about a lot of things that they have to deal with in their own lives. We will make changes to the photos and pictures every few months, so you will have bits and pieces about my take on me and what I value or what I know not to be true for me. I hope you enjoy the open door to me and my character.

The Signs of the Time–The Pesky and irritating Mercury continues in retrograde until June 12. Don’t blow a gasket–we need a little bit of down-time in order to reflect rather than all systems go. It never hurts to wait awhile to buy or sell a house, get a new car or trade in your current spouse for a newer model. (Truth be told, all marriages, business or personal, are about mirroring and foreshadowing). Get used to the interruption of your oftentimes shoddy plans.

There is a Full Moon on June 2 at 11 degrees of Sagittarius. Geminis and Sags alike need to review what they’re doing that may need a rewind and change in direction. This affects all Fire and Air Signs.

There is a New Moon on June 16 at 25 degrees of Gemini. Now, Gems, start your engines and roar into the next and new adventure in your lives. Again, benefits fall over Fire and Air Signs.

The troublesome and demanding cosmic cop plant Saturn will slither back into Scorpio on June 15. And 90 days later Saturn will move back into Sagittarius to rattle the cages of you Archers.

Another delicious wrinkle in time, known as an astrology lesson, is herein writ. If you want to know what the endgame for each sign is, it is to take on the traits of your opposite sign. As a Pisces I need constantly to add and come up with a real bank balance not let the dreamy state of the sign cause me to overdraw accounts. Virgo is too anal and critical. When they pick up a pen the hidden persuasion from Pisces is to write someone a love note or create poetry. And a caution to you is that most of us do not fare well with our opposite signs because like our Shadow, we prefer to transfer or project it onto another.

Fire Signs

fireARIES (March 20 – April 19)–You must be feeling a bit like Haley’s Comet, wondering where your streak will end and when. The short answer is no time soon, if you keep aware that Pluto in Capricorn will oftentimes slow you down a bit. You still have the benefit of Jupiter in Leo a few more months and soon Saturn will trine you for two and a half years beginning September 18. The Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 2 and the New Moon in Gemini on June 16 were like rose petals strewn at your feet. You might want to recall the lyrics to that spiritual hymn, “If I have wounded any soul today…God please forgive.” You Aries sometimes forget that you ruffle a lot of feathers time to time. Don’t forget about forgiveness.

LEO (July 22 – August 22)–The Sun in Gemini aligns with what you are trying to accomplish. There is a Grand Fire Trine from Jupiter in Leo, Saturn in early degrees of Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries. We always want to throw a little water on your runaway blazing fire because no sign is as full of itself as you are. Okay, so you are in a win-win situation with all these illustrious aspects, especially as the Stock Market keeps defying all odds. So our advice to you is to share the wealth, tithe 20% and save more than you spend. And may I say that with Jupiter in Leo all of you lions and lionesses have had a tendency to pack on the weight. Psst, eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Carry on!

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20)–Your astro-profile this Solar Cycle is offering you a mixed bag. It is true that Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries are making powerful contact for you. Jupiter is offering opportunities to spread your wings and taking a trip wherever you may roam. Uranus is like thrills and excitement knocking at your door. Then there is Mars opposing you in Gemini, making you feel God is throwing you a few curves–as if He is not pleased with your behavior. Be careful that you are not misreading the signs you are getting. If these were my aspects I might be a bit more circumspect and hunker down rather than throw caution to the wind.

Earth Signs

earthTAURUS (April 20 – May 20)–Your ruling planet, Venus will bless you, coddle and kiss you and whisper, ‘your wish is my command.’ But the birthday party comes to a screeching halt on June 6 when Venus sidles into Leo, which, as you know, can be double trouble for you Bulls. As we like to say in astrological parlance, this is a “put up your dukes and fight!” We will not suck up to you when we warn you that when you find yourself in a part of the forest unfamiliar to you, we offer this suggestion: Lose the pounds that push you into a bigger size. Review your assets and add to your future financial stockpile and give your Black American Express card a long rest.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)–Although Gemini is more flip, flop and fly–anything goes–and Virgo is nasty-nice, analytical and a tiny bit tight a**ed, you Virgins still have Mercury to deal with until June 12. Since this phenomenon only happens three weeks three times a year, you can handle the irritation of this time when you should go over and over anything that has serious consequences if you make a mistake. It is a good time to take a vacation and generally review all areas of your life. But remember the cautions: sign no legal papers, do not get hitched or separated, no major purchases like a new house or automobile and watch your tongue. There is a chance that you can open your yapper and make a lot of new enemies during Mercury retrograde.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)–There is an axiom in recovery circles that suggests we all try to live life on life’s terms. No sign lives by these watchwords better than you Goats. However, having been sprinkled with those words of caution, Capricorn has to interpret the terms far differently than all the other signs. Fire likes to strike while the iron is hot and Air likes to think its way onto the red carpet with genius and imagination. Capricorn on the other hand builds the terms for all of us to adopt every single day. This month is no different. All indicators are to keep doing what you’re doing to make life better for all of us.

Air Signs

airGEMINI (May 21 – June 20)–With your ruler Mercury retrograde most of this Solar Cycle, you might want to delay any major decisions until a week after Mercury goes direct. Also the situation for positive outcomes weakens because of the Full Moon on June 2 at 11 degrees of Sagittarius. And with Mars hovering over your head for all this Solar Cycle, you might be feeling like a puma or panther on a hot tin roof. With all the dark spots in your astrology this month you might want to do a lot of yoga, jogging and praying and meditating. If astrology is a power point for all of us it is incredible in letting us know what are the best and lesser aspects for us. Turn inward and shut out all the noise others are making.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)–You oughta be deep in clover with the Full Moon in Sagittarius and the New Moon in Gemini because you are compatible with both signs. You might want to take a trip for Memorial Day, May 25th. If you realize that all signs are affected by the nuisance of Mercury retrograde know that your flight might be delayed and the reservations at the five-star hotel might have been lost. Never mind, you are in such good stead in the Sky Map this month that you will find adventure rather than inconveniences to lift your spirits. And since I haven’t had a drink since Reagan was president, lay off the hard stuff. Cops are out in droves on major Holidays.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–It is true that your ruler, Uranus, is in a very powerful position for you Water Bearers. Uranus in Aries is daring you to be different and to rebel against the code that others keep. Jupiter opposing you in the sign of Leo might make you promise more than you can deliver. You will benefit greatly from the Sun in Gemini this Solar Cycle, as Gemini is an Air Sign as are you. You need to abide by the notion that too much of a good thing might trip up your best-laid plans. Don’t fret. Vivid imagination is your logo line. Caution should be your bodyguard.

Water Signs

waterCANCER (June 21 – July 21)–You are fortunate this month as Venus is in Cancer until June 6. Since you are ruled by the month, your best lunar days this month are May 21st, 25th, 26th, 30th and 31st; June 8th, 12th, 13th, 17th, and the 18th. If you read the introduction to this month’s column you might want to borrow some strategies from your neighbor across the street from you in the Zodiac, Capricorn. You ride the emotional roller coaster and pick up all the naysayers energies while Capricorn could care less what other think. Capricorns are patient and satisfied with whatever gets accomplished in a day and you brood and wonder where the God of your own understanding is hiding.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)–Nothing seems to be to your liking on the Life Menu this month. Wait’ll July rolls around and you will have the time of your life around the 4th of July. What is so fabulous about Scorpio is that you are always meeting someone or something to light up your life. Now that you are done with Saturn in Scorpio (except those of you who will experience Saturn from June 15 until September 17 if you are born between November 16th to the 20th), practice your magic on relationships. A lot of new people, places and things will pop up from July until the end of the year. Enjoy. You have worked hard for it.

PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–The Full Moon in Sagittarius and the New Moon in Gemini could make you feel like you are under Cosmic attack. Lean on the silent and invisible strength from your ruler, Neptune transiting in Pisces. I’m sure fellow Pisces, Michelangelo, didn’t ask the madding crowd where to chisel next. And the genius composer, Handel did not invite the townspeople in to critique his masterpiece, The Messiah. Always be on notice that Neptune can deceive and throw you into a tailspin rather than lift you to the heights of heaven. Always remember to keep your head in the clouds and your feet on terra firma.

The Greatest Night of My Life

The Light Foundation Scholarship Fund threw a fancy dinner to celebrate my 35th AA Anniversary. 70 friends, family and clients gathered in the Monet Ballroom at L’Auberge de Sedona for a delicious dinner and the most scrumptious cake designed by Andrea at Cake Couture. Opera Diva Ashley Galvani Bell entertained with arias from well-known operas accompanied by Karl Kessler on the viola and Chao Liao on piano. Read the rest of this post.

Alcoholism is a Family Disease

The Dysfunction of the Family Tree: When I work with an alcoholic or drug addict it is obvious to me that everyone hanging from the Family Tree played his or her part in the creation of the lone wolf black sheep. The whole toxic environment which spawned the addict is overlaid with blame and shame. In You’re Not Who You Think You Are, I build a solid case for how all members of the family are involved in the dysfunction that caused the compulsive and obsessive one to dive head-first into his addiction. Your Ego Listens When Reason Speaks…And Here’s What Happens

As the myth goes, God created man out of thin air and then Eve popped out of his rib. And just when they were getting to know one another, Eve asked Adam to bite her apple. Then along came the snake. The apple and the snake are a carnival act–they are Frick and Frack in collusion. Make what you will of the yarn, but my Sherlock Holmes intuition tells me to find the truth of the matter in close examination of the apple and the creepy crawler. What Dr. Watson and I came up with was this. The apple of course is temptation. Bite it and you pay a huge price–entrapment. The snake is a doppelganger that represents the Ego, that nefarious shadow- self who always wants us to stay ensnared and beholden to his pleasure chest: food, booze, more, self, manipulation and control. Well, I could go on forever. I could stay with the vivisection of the birth and eons of treachery of the ego from the Garden of Eve to the present. But I won’t. What I will do is to tell you that each of us has an Ego, and although venerated by some like Freud, I feel it has to be dealt with. And the dealing is where I am taking you. What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
