Checking in with Yourself

My Momma and Granny both advised me to stay away from discussing politics and religion unless I wanted to suffer the backlash of a lot of teeth-gnashers and/or those who carry a big stick. I listened to both of them to some degree, such as ‘ladies before gentlemen,’ ‘offer a lady your seat,’ ‘write proper thank you notes’, but when it comes to what made me mad and resentful as a boy, i.e., manipulation and outright lying by preachers and politicians, I speak out and take my lumps if need be.

As you begin to read about and see more and more candidates barking, braying, back stabbing, sounding like blowhards, promising anything and everything to be elected President of the United States in 2008, check in with yourself. Determine what you want a candidate to do to make the greenback stronger here and abroad. Support a candidate to be someone who would hold individuals responsible for their own financial well-being. Mark your ballot for a proactive statesman who would heal the bad blood among countries around the world toward Americans by getting out and staying off their turf—refuse to invade—by using diplomacy until it wears out bullies and demagogues. Ask yourself which one is more likely to be an independent thinker, unlegislated by his or her Party and one that has a Higher Power rather than a convenient church affiliation, before you are unduly persuaded by the rhetoric of a particular candidate. More and more those vying for the highest office in our country are sounding the same or resorting to prejudice or slander.

There is a new book out, Words That Work: It’s Not What You say, It’s What People Hear by Dr. Frank Luntz (Hyperion, 350 pages, $24.95) that will help you “hear” what the candidates are saying rather what they are “saying”. Find out what you hear him say to help you better know what a candidate represents. There is an old adage with which I concur regarding politicos specifically: “I hear what you say but I know what you really mean.”

Take your power back when it comes to government candidates—don’t cast your vote frivolously or from the way one of them looks. Join the quantum physics of ‘who we elect can make a difference.’

By the time you read this month’s astrology column most of you will have switched to daylight saving time (Arizona, Indiana and Hawaii don’t switch—we stay put) and spring will have sprung March 20th. Mercury went direct on March 7th—but you should have waited until at least the 14th to be rid of the cautions of the retrograde—so it is safe to buy and sell with contractual agreements, make plans to travel for business or pleasure and to get the sense that your mind is not still playing tricks on you. Mercury retrograde can also make you grumpy and generally out of sorts. Move freely without all the warnings about Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong, will.

There was a Solar Eclipse New Moon at 28 degrees of Pisces on March 18th which should be a flash card from the Universe that it is time to start something new for Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius. Solar Eclipses are usually much more powerful than lunar eclipses (March 3rd) and its effects will be felt until the next one which will be September 11th at 18 degrees of Virgo—again new beginnings for the mutable signs mentioned above.

Saturn at 18 degrees of Leo is the only retrograde planet during this Aries cycle. This indicates more cosmic refinement (read “harsh realities”) for Leos but great benefits to Aries and Sagittarius.

Overall the aspects are better now than they have been in six weeks and most signs will receive a reprieve from the heartbreak of living life on life’s terms.

Aries (March 21 – April 20)

If things get any better for you rambunctious rams the rest of the zodiac will be pea-green with killer-envy. Your suave diplomacy is so electrifying that whatever you want you get. I would suggest reading the fine print and not promising too much because those planets move and exact a heavy price for dark side shenanigans. Keep the lights bright when you lay out where you are trying to go with all your wheeling/dealing and the pay-off will benefit you and your partnership.

Taurus (April 21 – May 20)

Younger than springtime is how you are going to feel now that winter’s hibernation is over and those added pounds are beginning to melt away. Mercury in Pisces fabulously aspecting your sun sign bodes well for planting seed and watching things grow. And there could not be a better time to patch up dented and dinged friendships. Nobody can make us madder than a stubborn, immovable Taurus. Open the door of willingness to make things better with those on the outs. Don’t forget that the line between love and hate is razor-thin.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

If you are still reeling from the eclipses this month take comfort in the strong aspect from Saturn in Leo. It’s either all work or all play for you twins this month. Take a hint and do a little of both so you can live in a balanced parallel universe. Your creativity hits a few high notes with that luscious trine from Neptune in Aquarius. The next time somebody asks you to speak up and say what you want out of life, stand up and shout exactly what you want. The nice thing about being a Gemini is that most of the time you fit in any where and you are never high maintenance.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

You may feel like the cat died or that nobody listens when you talk, but all that will change once you remind the clan who holds the purse strings. If you have been single for awhile, cast your net for a good catch this Aries cycle. If there’s one sign that was not meant to live alone it was you Moon-ruled Cancers. The trouble with you is that you play so nice in the beginning and then control 24/7 two or three months into the affair. Planets are begging you to let go and let God run the universe and you tend to your own business. Good aspects for you, for a change.

Leo (July 22 – August 22)

For those of you in a career-change mood now is the time to seek greener pastures. Call a headhunter or let all those who care know that you are looking and want to move lock, stock and Rolodex as soon as possible. The good news is that you have the money to tide you over until you get your first big, fat paycheck. The bad news is that a lot of the dough has already been promised to those you owe. Put on the charm and ask for an extension. Although Saturn has been depressing you for two years, your luck is about to change.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

The Bible says that it rains on the just and the unjust but Virgos think God is always picking on them. Eclipses are like precipitous omens—they portend major changes and indicate what trouble spots lie ahead. If you have been feeling out of sorts, see your doc or alter your eating habits and exercise more. If there were ever a time in your life when it all depends on you and the Divine, it is now. Evaluate and get to the bottom of what has you down and out or feeling physically bad.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Negotiations are going to get back on track now that Mercury is back on track. For your business sector, this is $$$$ good news. The sore spot for you could be more up close and personal—a rip in the relationship, a tear in the whole cloth of your marriage. Although you are famous for being balanced and even keeled, you are also known to be a little bit inattentive and sometimes downright missing in action. Around March 28th and 29th, I suggest you plan a candle light dinner at his or her favorite restaurant. If you really mean business, plan a romantic second honeymoon.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

I know you like to play it calm, cool and collected in all your affairs, especially in those of the heart. However, now is the time to think about you and stop trying so hard to please everybody else. Truth be told, you need to focus on you and where your career is going or better yet why it is stalemated. A white knight from your past rides back into your life, just when you need him most. You are known to be cautious and super careful, but now is the time to risk going for what you want rather than settling for what you’ve got.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 20)

The eclipses have been doing a number on your wild ‘n wooly free-wheeling lifestyle. Rather than go with the flow, call an organized Virgo and lay tracks for the next bend in the road. While you are at it, see if Ms. Virgo has a Libra lawyer to help you straighten out your finances. The sign that will pull you back into safer financial waters will be of all things a Taurus—tighter than a tick and less generous than the Salvation Army to be sure. What you have going for you is that everybody seems to love you. Stay solvent!

Capricorn (December 21 – January 19)

You goats got all the powerful benefits from the eclipses, so move ahead a bit faster than is your nature. Astrology is about timing and yours is perfect if you are trying to get loan approval, settle an insurance claim or apply for a new homeowner’s policy. You literally stumble onto “found money” whether it is an old discard in the attic or a piece of property that finally sells. You sometimes think you are pulling a heavier wagon than your family or friends’, it’s just that it takes you longer to empty it. In this Aries cycle, get ready to resolve a lot of unfinished business.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 17)

You really walk to the beat of a different drummer this month. If you have been feeling overworked and under appreciated at work, change the things you can. With the planets aligned for you to be heard, speak up. The same goes for the home front—let the family know that you want everybody to pull his weight. Aquarians are famous to live and let live and don’t fence them in. But you’ve come to the end of the line with incompetence and laziness. Sometimes the higher ups listen and other times you’re on your own. You’ll be surprised at how much you gain by being direct and frank.

Pisces (February 18 – March 20)

If you’ve been thinking that the world is topsy-turvy you couldn’t be more right. Pisces are criticized for being dreamers and living in make-believe. Perhaps it is time for you fish to lead us into more inspirational waters. With Uranus in your sun sign for a few more years, design us a universe where there is more emphasis on love and compassion—your strong suit—and less attention to “it’s an all about me” world. Sooner or later we are all going to get the picture that somewhere along the way peace of mind beats everything that money can buy.

Leadership through Service

Can you recall those individuals who supported your childhood dreams? Or that teacher or mentor who pushed you beyond your comfort zone because she saw more in you than perhaps you saw in yourself? You may consider yourself a self starter, but are you really where you are today solely due to your unaided efforts? We all can have the tendency to want to be a self-made person, but in the end what do we gain other than inflated pride?

Take this month’s Aries leadership energy to impart your strength and wisdom to a willing individual who could benefit. He may be an eager employee or co-worker looking to better himself and the company, or a child struggling to find her way in this chaotic world. And don’t forget to stay open to what someone might have to offer you to nudge you one step closer to your ultimate dream.

A Poem By Natasha Herman

Sedona’s Man

One day I’m looking in a mag and think-now there’s a man
Who can readily reveal to me the many reason why I ran
From my true self some years ago and live a shadow life
And also how I can change course and live minus the strife
And charismatic through and through, at last a visionary for me
A workshop leader at a London show and what a gem was he
Who talked of signs and wonders and stirred our souls around
And encouraged us to meet the inner person that we hadn’t found
Genius Albert Clayton Gaulden in 4 hours managed this amazing task;
My false self-Cinderella knew he’d soon unveil my well-worn mask.
Wow, I thought, this guy is flawed but he sure knows his stuff
And shaken from complacency I found I couldn’t get enough
Albert really is the biz, he simply tells it like it is!
He unearths our secrets with such fizz, his methods are uniquely his
The message he would like to see is that we pay attention well.
As God within us tries to tell that we ask ego’s thoughts to quell.
That still, small voice inside our head may talk to you when you’re in bed
Or you may hear something that’s said or see a sign that should be read
Manifestations will appear as all your blocks begin to clear.
A life anew will come to you and daffy feelings are your cue as Albert sorts emotional stew.
So to Sedona come prepared, your past life dramas will be aired.
And all your ego’s tricks laid bare and you will know how well you faired.
Who you are NOT and make amends and make a case.
To go inspire the human race!
