note-to-self

You are always reading insights about you as well as what’s up with people and causes that we wholeheartedly support. But time to time people ask about who I am and how I feel about a lot of things that they have to deal with in their own lives. We will make changes to the photos and pictures every few months, so you will have bits and pieces about my take on me and what I value or what I know not to be true for me. I hope you enjoy the open door to me and my character. — Albert Gaulden

“Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and, departing,
leave behind us, footprints on the sands of time.”

The Signs of the Time–For starters for the New Year, Mercury went retrograde on January 5 at 1 degree of Aquarius and it will reverse and go direct on January 25 at 14 degrees of Capricorn. To position the discussion about Mercury retrogrades, may we suggest that Mercury retrogrades give us a time in which to lay back and also exhale. The same cautions are in place, nonetheless–be careful about signing documents (the signing could come back to haunt you), computers and cars can go on the fritz and plans–business and pleasure regarding travel–do not go off without complications or delays.

There is a Full Moon on January 23 at 3 degrees of Leo. Sometimes full Moons feel like the end of an Act in your ongoing life story. This is true both on the personal and the global scale. It’s like in a movie where all the plot points are pulled together, and for a brief moment, you can see the interwoven whole.

If you set intentions, the Full Moon is a time when you begin to make out the path, and can take an exhilarating step forward. It is both a culmination and a time to act. Most affected are early degrees of Aquarius and mid-degrees of Capricorn.

There is a New Moon on February 8 at 19 degrees of Aquarius. New Moons are a great time to structure and plan for things you’d like to create, develop, cultivate, and manifest. There are many ways to initiate this communion with the Universe from lighting a candle to elaborate rituals.

What matters most is that you’re committing yourself to your vision, and open to receiving guidance, healing, and support from Spirit.

This is a most fortuitous time for Aquarians and other Air Signs, Gemini and Libra as well as Fire Signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Jupiter is the only retrograde planet in the Zodiac at this time. It will continue retrograding from the 22 and 20 degrees of Virgo. This indicates unexpected outcomes for Virgos and Pisces. It is also boon time for other Earth Signs, Taurus and Capricorns, as well as Water Signs, Cancer and Scorpio. Some say that when Jupiter blesses the sign it affects when it is direct in motion, it can also withhold fortunes during the retrograde periods.

We would be remiss if we did not comment astrologically on the unrest in the world, particularly in the Middle East and what some believe may be apocalyptic.

Saturn, who some view as the “Cosmic Cop” of the Zodiac, went into the Sign of Sagittarius on September 18th. The nature of Sagittarius is free-range, roaming and pecking anywhere it chooses.

We here at SI have always said that Darkness has Power as does The Light. Under this Saturn aspect it is apparent that the torturous umbra–obfuscation of The Light–has been wreaking havoc in the Lower World. Saturn will teach us a lot for the next two-plus years that it is in Sagittarius. Did I mention that Sagittarius is where God lives? As Granny used to say to me when I was a small boy, “Albert, take notes!”

This seems to be where the major world players are at this time. And never forget that there is the dynamic of good versus evil afoot. But who is the judge of what is good and what is bad?

The world in which we live has become divided as much religiously as it has politically. I suggest as I do with clients who go through Saturn in their Sun Sign specifically, learn from Saturn. Many among us are selfish and self-centered. We want what we want when we want it. Saturn will take away what you don’t need or deserve and let you earn what is given you from the Upper World.

There have been wars and rumors of wars for millennia. From the Early Ages through the Middle Ages and Dark Ages–the Period of Enlightenment–and yet wars never cease. The challenge is for each of us to find peace within ourselves. According to someone like me, this is the Unreal World, and the Good Book reminds us not to store treasures on Earth. My good friend Randy advises, “If you want peace, make peace.”

Fire Signs

fireARIES (March 19 – April 18)–Uranus will continue to open up new avenues of opportunity throughout the year for you Rams. Let me give you the Venus aspects all year so you can plan accordingly. But let me remind you AGAIN that Aries has no filter and has only one speed, faster than the speed of light. January 19 – 23, Venus in Sagittarius, trine Aries; watch for any blindsiding from the 23rd of January throughout the Aquarian cycle. The Full Moon on January 23 at 3 degrees of Leo will be open door for positive payouts. Also bonanza time under the New Moon on February 8 at 19 degrees of Aquarius

LEO (July 22 – August 21)–There is a Full Moon at 3 degrees of Leo on January 23. This indicates that whatever plans have been percolating, a change in jobs or a move from one location to another, you are free to embrace the new opportunities. Full Moons are always indicators of “the wait is over. Reap what you’ve sown.” The New Moon on February 8 at 19 degrees of Aquarius is indicating that the solution to your oftentimes selfishness is to aid and give to others that need what you have. Truly, Life is all about all of us, never just about us as individuals. No matter what skewered politics try to convince you of, if you are generous, you will be blessed. How” Ask someone every day, “What can I do for you?” The indicators are that it is not always about money.

SAGITTARIUS (November 21 – December 20)–If no one has ever told you that God lives in the Sign of Sagittarius we reveal it now. With Saturn transiting Sagittarius for two and a half years you will lead where God speaks to you. But here is a warning to the slothful and indolent amongst you. You will step aside and let those with a Higher Message and the Sure Means pass you by. Being born in a sign and its native house is like living in an abode that an architect platted just for you. Oh, and for those who haven’t a clue, we all choose when to born and to whom, and also when to make our transition. Most look about Saturn with fear and trembling. Not Sagittarius. This is the house and sign that the Divine created. Enjoy the ride.

Earth Signs

earthTAURUS (April 19 – May 19)–Mercury and Venus in Capricorn are your friends this Solar Cycle. You and Capricorn have a lot in common: slow to act but resolute with your decision when you do. Otherwise Aquarius and Taurus square–not very compatible. However there are enough power points to guide you through the Zodiac this month. This would be a good time for you to make a determination to share what you have. Kabbalah reminds us to “receive the Light to share.” On another note a sage wrote this week that what lies at the base of much of the fear and trembling of late is the shortage of water.

VIRGO (August 22 – September 21)–You continue to sprout wings and fly because Mercury and Venus are in Capricorn in solid compatibility with Virgo. You might be feeling the anxiety that Saturn in Sagittarius squaring you is causing. Here is a baby-bird lesson in astrology: trines and sextiles are very fortuitous for all signs; squares are troublesome. When Saturn is in Sagittarius it is the Upper World’s way of sending signals that those signs being squared need to evaluate their spiritual condition. Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins, pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth, apply to you. It may be time for a spiritual inventory.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 18)–The Goat is accused of everything from acting like a know-it-all to choosing to leave you behind when it’s time to go. Again, those qualities are balderdash. With Mercury and Venus in Capricorn keep your eyes on the prize: the project or game plan or whatever is on your drawing board. The brilliant planners and implementers are more times than not, Capricorn. You are starting the New Year with a completion date in your head. What’s exclusive about the Goat is that he or she never lets anyone get in their way and they never ask your permission to go and do and be. Welcome to uno bono finis, Capricorns.

Air Signs

airGEMINI (May 20 – June 19)–If you are looking for a boost in the cold month of January, the Full Moon at 3 degrees of Leo should warm you up. Leo is in sextile position to Gemini, which benefits you Twins. The bother you’re feeling is Saturn in Sagittarius. Opposition teaches me more than we oftentimes are willing to learn. The lesson here is to learn to listen to yourself and not the chattering crowds who are more troubling and helpful. With your ruling planet Mercury in Capricorn all Solar Cycle, you had best be at the drawing board working on a better and more durable mousetrap. Have patience, when Mercury goes into Aquarius you’ll be in high cotton.

LIBRA (September 22 – October 21)–Saturn in Sagittarius may be causing a lot of signs to pull their hair, but you are in alignment with this configuration to benefit greatly. But with every astrological benefit there is often a caveat. Here is your caution: Your ruling planet, Venus, is going to be in Capricorn for most of this Solar Cycle. Mercury will travel the same Capricorn for most of the month. We try to assist even the most stubborn of signs not to rest on their laurels during favorable transits. With the squares from Venus and Mercury in Capricorn it is an indicator to review relationships, business and professional and to take a cold, hard review of your finances.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–The Full Moon at 3 degrees of Leo may seem like a challenge to you Water Bearers. The geniuses among us stargazers believe that our opposing sign teaches us a lot about what we need to change. Aquarians are famous for caring about the world in an abstract sense, but are not comfortable in how to legislate personal and sensitive up-close-and-personal ones. This lunation is an opportunity to take an inventory to see what’s off in your close relationships and what needs to be overhauled. The New Moon at 19 degrees of Aquarius will be your report card of progress, or not.

Water Signs

waterCANCER (June 20 – July 21)–Perhaps if you are “of an age” it has been revealed that the dead of winter is not your time of the year. Some like it hot and that identifies you Lunar-based Mommas and Poppas of the Zodiac. We spent too long avoiding telling you that the personal planets are not your allies this Solar Cycle. We recommend regular yoga classes. Meditate at least and hour a day. Keep a daily journal. That is a spiritual triad that in time will change your life. You are such a generous person, so remember always “to receive The Light to share.

SCORPIO (October 22 – November 20)–Oftentimes we seers of the Great Beyond mistake a transit immodestly. Such is the case with Scorpio this Solar Cycle. Many of the deluded and uninformed feel that there is something ominous about this sign. This is utter nonsense. Beginning with the Aquarian Solar Cycle, Scorpios who have mastered their lessons when Saturn held you in its teaching grasp for two and a half years, and embraced what those lessons revealed, will now have what they are to do henceforth revealed to them. Do not look to the outer world to praise you or the hands of greed to sully you. Go where you are lead by Divine Purpose and this year you will reap what you have sown over many lifetimes.

PISCES (February 18 – March 18)–Your ruling, Neptune, is slower than molasses as it creeps through Pisces. The good news is if you have continued to cop a please to the negative and detracting attributes of Pisces, like alcoholism, delusion, “hearing voices” as well as having somewhat of a messianic complex, you’ll land in a bed of four leaf clovers. We (yes, I am one also) Fishes are the most gifted musicians, poets, writers and visionaries in the Zodiac. But we need to remember to pay back–on time–what we borrow and stay out of other peoples’ business. With Jupiter opposing us from the sign of Virgo all year, we will be under the cosmic microscope.

Has the World Turned Up-Side-Down?

I’m Just Asking… Sometimes I wake up and think the world turned upside down while I slept. But, no, it’s just negative, fearful, religious zealot loudmouthed naysayers trying to out-crow the maddening crowd. When I started drinking at 20 and put the plug in the jug at 41, I thought those 21 years were glorious: spending money I didn’t have, going places I couldn’t afford, picking fights with anyone who would get in the ring with me and deciding not to pay my taxes. Guess what? I surrendered, hit bottom and went into the rooms of 12-steps and got sober. I stopped the bad boy behavior and paid a big price for heretofore litany of sins mentioned above. Getting sober was the toughest thing I ever did. My bible thumping days reminded me that “the wages of sin is death.”–Romans 6:23. Now that’s a thought I can endorse from personal experience. The Cave You Fear

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek. This is a brilliant quote from a man many revere as the Father of Mythology, Joseph Campbell. When I read all his books and studied The Power of Myth television series with Bill Moyers and Campbell, I knew that the alternative protocol I used in my work was on solid ground. The Greatest Night of My Life

The Light Foundation Scholarship Fund threw a fancy dinner to celebrate my 35th AA Anniversary. 70 friends, family and clients gathered in the Monet Ballroom at L’Auberge de Sedona for a delicious dinner and the most scrumptious cake designed by Andrea at Cake Couture. Opera Diva Ashley Galvani Bell entertained with arias from well-known operas accompanied by Karl Kessler on the viola and Chao Liao on piano. Read the rest of this post.

Alcoholism is a Family Disease

The Dysfunction of the Family Tree: When I work with an alcoholic or drug addict it is obvious to me that everyone hanging from the Family Tree played his or her part in the creation of the lone wolf black sheep. The whole toxic environment which spawned the addict is overlaid with blame and shame. In You’re Not Who You Think You Are, I build a solid case for how all members of the family are involved in the dysfunction that caused the compulsive and obsessive one to dive head-first into his addiction. Your Ego Listens When Reason Speaks…And Here’s What Happens

As the myth goes, God created man out of thin air and then Eve popped out of his rib. And just when they were getting to know one another, Eve asked Adam to bite her apple. Then along came the snake. The apple and the snake are a carnival act–they are Frick and Frack in collusion. Make what you will of the yarn, but my Sherlock Holmes intuition tells me to find the truth of the matter in close examination of the apple and the creepy crawler. What Dr. Watson and I came up with was this. The apple of course is temptation. Bite it and you pay a huge price–entrapment. The snake is a doppelganger that represents the Ego, that nefarious shadow- self who always wants us to stay ensnared and beholden to his pleasure chest: food, booze, more, self, manipulation and control. Well, I could go on forever. I could stay with the vivisection of the birth and eons of treachery of the ego from the Garden of Eve to the present. But I won’t. What I will do is to tell you that each of us has an Ego, and although venerated by some like Freud, I feel it has to be dealt with. And the dealing is where I am taking you. What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
