The Signs of the Time–Welcome to the Summer Solstice. Hot times are here as well as opportunities to change the things you can: yourself. And also this is the 31 days in which you will undergo whatever the Eclipses have in store for you.

On July 2 there is a Solar Eclipse New Moon at 10 degrees of Cancer. The effects of this phenomenon will majorly apply to Cancers and in a minor way to other water signs, Scorpio and Pisces.

In astrology, a solar eclipse could bring a bold beginning, setting us on a new path that we hadn’t imagined for ourselves. While it may be surprising—or not something you even expected—a solar eclipse has a bigger vision in store for us. We have a finite focus as human beings, and it’s natural to concentrate on what’s in front of us. At times, this can limit our perspectives, and cause us to miss out on opportunities. Solar eclipses might snatch away the familiar temporarily, forcing us to consider options we would never otherwise explore. Although this can cause upheaval, eclipses are “cruel to be kind.” Major growth can happen during these cosmic power outages. This is when we should leap into new (and generally improved) terrain, even if we feel forced there by circumstances beyond our control.

On July 16 there will be a partial Lunar Eclipse Full Moon at 24 degrees of Capricorn. Not only Capricorns, but Cancers, Libra and Aries will also be affected although to a lesser degree.

Lunar Eclipses are viewed in astrology as being deeply transformative times that can bring abrupt and sudden change. While this is true, there is another side to Eclipses that is important to remember. Eclipses are like the cosmic helping hand of the Universe. Imagine the energy of an Eclipse like a Universal hand that reaches down from the heavens and puts you where you need to be.

The good thing about Eclipses is that generally you can trust the direction they are guiding you in. Eclipses bring about events that are part of the cosmic plan. These are important times for thinking about your life, and who you need to forgive or what you need to let go of and move on from.

Mercury will be retrograde from July 8 at 4 degrees of Leo until August 2 when Mercury goes direct at 24 degrees of Cancer. Be very leery of the Stock Market and all financial matters at this time. Also, do not sign contracts on houses or other assets. It is unwise to quit or start a new job. Mercury retrograde is also a time to kick back and stay out of harm’s way.

Monthly Insights for the Signs

Fire Signs

ARIES (March 20 – April 19)–With your ruling planet, Mars, out of synch with you Rams this  Solar Cycle, you best spend your time seeing what you can do to help others less fortunate. The divine Kabbalah suggests that you ask a number of people every day, “What can I do for you?” “What do you need that I can assist with?” Aries is born with a sense of the leader and oftentimes dictator that you need to transcend. When we read and hear so much about how leaders at the top need to stop acting out of arrogance and self-seeking, all of us, whatever our Birth Sign, need to do the same.

LEO (July 22 – August 21)–Mercury in Leo retrograde is not your friend this Solar Cycle. It is time to sit on the sidelines and let the rest of the Zodiac tend to their own business–and you tend to yours! Our suggestions for you are limitless this month: 1) Work at a soup kitchen; 2) Take a three-week vacation, like hiking and sleeping in the woods or on your favorite beach; 3) Pray, meditate and journal and play like you live in an Ashram; 4) Finally, ask as many people in need as you can find: “What can I do for you?” In case you haven’t figured it out–stay out of other’s way and stick to what you’ve got. Do not poke around in the Greed Market.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20)–Oops, you Jupiter-ruled leaners, dreamers and schemers, your ruling planet is retrograde for awhile longer. The Rules of the Upper World that come down to the Lower World requires that during a retrograde of your rulership, you must retool and recalibrate your innate nature. Help yourself before you can help others. One of the key things to remember about you and who you were born to be is servant leadership. No one denies how fun and free you love to be. Remember when Mama used to say, “Clean up your room before you go out to play/” Okay, Sags, start cleaning!

Earth Signs

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)–“On the good ship Lollipop…” With your ruling planet Venus in Cancer from July 4th on, you might benefit with what you’ve been working on for awhile. Mars, also in Cancer, can be a rough sign for a Water Sign. If there is any upside to this aspect it will benefit Taurus. Neptune in Pisces can have the sense of a helping hand to you Bulls as well. Saturn and Pluto in an Earth Sign also give sustenance to Taurus. What you always need to remember is that no sign will eat its way into sate and over-full like you Bulls. Give yourselves permission to be abstinent in all ways.

VIRGO (August 22 – September 21)–Since Mercury is your ruling planet keep your head down this month. Since Mercury retrogrades are active two weeks before and two weeks after Mercury goes direct, you should keep writing that Best Seller that you have put off most of your intelligent life. To look ahead, there is a new home or apartment in your near future. House clean and discard to the Good Will all that you don’t ever use. Get ready for a new neighborhood and even love life that has eluded picky and analytical you. With all the paperwork you’ve waded through, try on real life for a healthy change.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)–You are the work horses of the Zodiac. When Pisces is mewling and upset over minutiae or Aries is making a lot of noise that Greed Street has turned on him or her, you Goats are slaving away at what most signs wouldn’t touch. It is my opinion that you Caps operate better in a world of one. Your needs are met by how functional and committed you are to doing your part to make the world a better place. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn are the only two planets you need to cross the finish line. Keep tending to your own business and you’ll continue to play an integral part in Mankind.

Air Signs

GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)–For starters, when your ruling planet, Mercury is in Leo from June 27 to July 8, you are in high clover. Then when Mercury goes retrograde on July 8, watch out for signing contracts–new car, or house or long time rental–step aside and wait until it safe to do those contractual affairs. I have so many horror and regretful stories when folks ignore the warning signs of retrograde Mercury to their own detriment. You have had such a great and positive June, count your blessings instead of looking for double trouble when you try to make things happen with signing documents when you shouldn’t.

LIBRA (September 22 – October 22)–Just when you thought it was your turn and your time, here came your ruling planet, Venus, in the troublesome, moody and controlling sign, Cancer. Although you are known to be judicious and fair-minded, the rest of the Zodiac does not share your celestial DNA. From June 27 to July 8 Mercury in Leo offers a short opportunity to settle some financial scores and make the outcome favorable for you Solomons. But then on July 9 for several weeks, Mercury is retrograde. So sit still and do not engage any long term relationships that could eventually sour on you.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–Sorry, Water Bearers, this is not your turn or your time to shine. What I recommend is that you find a niche to integrate into your own lexicon. There are always times of the year when a Sign can stand up and roar and as is this time for you Aquarians, it is time to go back into the laboratory and find a different tune to write, a thesis to develop or something worth your time and effort. The world needs thoughtfulness as well as righteous reasonability. The world did not get into this ragged place alone; each of us has been architects of our discontent.

Water Signs

CANCER (June 21 – July 21)–Starting with the Solar Eclipse New Moon at 10 degrees of Cancer on June 2, this may just be the best 31 days of the year so far for you. Mars in July all Solar Cycle will be a bit off-putting as Mars abrades and is oftentimes aggressive and unpleasant. Venus in Cancer beginning July 4 all month is a blessing for all of you Crabs. You’ll be helped with Uranus in Taurus–also in alignment with Cancer. Neptune in Pisces will also give you a leg-up. Since you and the Red, White and Blue share the same birth month, perhaps you should rededicate yourself to telling the truth and sticking by it.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)–From the 4th of July throughout the Cancer Solar Cycle Venus will be in compatible Cancer. Count your blessings. And the Sun will aid and abet you all month as well. Scorpio is the Sign of the Zodiac that requires a lot of personal housecleaning. Don’t forget your celestial symbol is the scorpion whose bite is deadly and its innate tendency is to destroy. When you go through the psychic transformation, you are the Masters of the Lower World. This is a 31 day playing field in which you can change for your own personal betterment as well as others in this world of Karma.

PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–Now is the time for us Pisces to do our part of the massive changes that are upon us. Fishes can oftentimes be passive and wait for someone else to do the heavy lifting. But it is our time (yes, your writer is a Fish as well as millions of others on the planet) to make the world a better place. We can accomplish a lot with kindness and care and concern for our Fellowmen and women and children. A first step could be to spend less and save more. Being in a supposed Democracy does not entitle any of us to spend more than we make. Debt is a weight against our basic freedoms.

William Shakespeare

“All the world’s a stage”
By William Shakespeare (from As You Like It)

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lin’d,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well sav’d, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion;
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

Birmingham Holocaust Education Center Fund Raiser

Although I am not officially Jewish I am a devotee of the Holocaust Center in Birmingham, Alabama. My dear friend Cathy Ovson Friedman made me aware of BHEC and I decided I wanted to make friends of the Sedona Intensive aware of their unbelievably deep and abiding work for the  Center.

I encourage everyone to support this Center’s efforts to educate everyone about the work being done to make sure that through awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust the world will never have to survive such atrocities again.

The Sedona Intensive is making a donation to BHEC for $1,000.00.  Please join us in making a contribution as well.

Love and Gratitude, Albert Gaulden

More from their website: The Birmingham Holocaust Education Center (BHEC) seeks to educate the people of Alabama about the history of the Holocaust so that new generations will apply the lessons of the Holocaust to the construction of a more just, humane, and tolerant future. By preserving and sharing the stories of local Holocaust survivors and commemorating the events of the Holocaust and the lives of those who perished, the BHEC seeks to promote a moral and ethical response to prejudice, hatred, and indifference for the benefit of all humanity.

NEW BOOK by Albert Clayton Gaulden
Moments and Windstorms: Take Back Your Power

This ground-breaking book offers an in-depth journey through the author’s eye-opening addiction to alcohol and how he eventually got sober. Gaulden has written a number of books as well as being Founding Director of the Sedona Intensive, one of the country’s most highly regarded alternative personal growth programs.

The author shares all the ways God was leading and guiding him even when he was still drinking. “Most of us look at false paradigms to measure success in our lives. So much of where I went and the jobs I took helped me remember what I was to do as my life’s work.”

Gaulden’s book is divided into five parts. Each section explores different parts of his journey, incorporating all the places he’s been, the studies he’s made and the people he’s met. His point of view is that each client who sought his help made him a better person. At the end of the book, he has some daunting but hopeful words about the conditions of the planet Earth and what we need to do to survive as a race.

Couples Who Went to the Extreme to Save Their Marriage
An interview with Carl and Joyce Gioia in RedBook Magazine

When Joyce Gioia couldn’t think of anything else to save her marriage and solve the trust issues that were tearing her and her husband, Carl, apart, she decided to make an investment into what she hoped could be a life-long, loving marriage.They packed their bags and headed to the Sedona Intensive: A $16,000 week-long intensive therapy session that helps people release all self-destructive behaviors.

The purpose of this particular therapy was to help them become stronger individuals, and the counseling was never couple-based. In fact, they only saw each other once per morning at 7 a.m. when they attended a 12-step meeting. The meetings addressed addictions—but it had nothing to do with substance abuse—it was focused on things like work addictions and co-dependence issues.

Between the supervised journaling, visits with renowned mental health professionals, and their genuine will to make things work, Carl and Joyce were able to recover their relationship.

“I believed that the nature and the intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing a resolution in our marriage,” Joyce said. And she was right. By looking at each other as total individuals, they were able to discover what was most important to their spouse and cater to those specific needs. Two years have passed and they’re more in love than ever.

Q & A

RedBook – Explain what the Sedona intensive is.

The Sedona Intensive is a rigorous, weeklong self-exploration. During the week, through concentrated journaling and visits with mental and physical health professionals, we each invested a lot of effort and energy in self-discovery. This self-learning experience is designed and managed by well-respected psychologist Albert Gaulden and includes daily meeting with Albert to monitor progress and ensure results.

RedBook – How did you find out about it?

My brother, who is a nationally acclaimed Emergency Department physician, had gone through this experience with his wife Amber and highly recommended it to us.

RedBook – What did you do at the Sedona intensive?

Every day, we began by attending a 12-Step Meeting with AA. Then, we had a rotating schedule of appointments with a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a yoga instructor, and/or an energy-balancing professional, and of course, Albert. In our “spare” time, we took independent hikes, though the spectacular Sedona canyons.

RedBook – What made you decide to go to this?

We decided to do it, because nothing else seemed to be working to resolve our trust issues. I believed that the nature and intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing resolution of our marriage.

RedBook – How did it change your relationship?

We both worked very hard to discover why we engaged in self-destructive behaviors that stood in the way of our sharing the loving relationship we both thought possible. Two years later, we are more in love than ever before.

RedBook – Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, absolutely, if the two people are prepared to approach the experience with open hearts and minds and they are truly interested in doing the work to strengthen the relationship.

Lindsay, as I said before, “I honestly do not know what else we might have done that would have been so effective in turning the relationship around”.

Joyce Gioia

What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
