note-to-self

You are always reading insights about you as well as what’s up with people and causes that we wholeheartedly support. But time to time people ask about who I am and how I feel about a lot of things that they have to deal with in their own lives. We will make changes to the photos and pictures every few months, so you will have bits and pieces about my take on me and what I value or what I know not to be true for me. I hope you enjoy the open door to me and my character. — Albert Gaulden

“Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and, departing,
leave behind us, footprints on the sands of time.”

–Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Signs of the Time–Since we are in the homestretch for 2017, let me be frank about what I know to be true for me; you decide whether these conclusions fit how you think.

I know we live in a democracy but it is beginning to feel as if we are being too lackadaisical about what’s going on in Washington. It seems strangely connected to extreme narrow and bigoted agendas for outlanders to disrupt what our forefathers planned for the Republic. Never forget that this country was founded by courageous souls who fled England to escape an oppressive Monarchy.

Most of you know that I have gone on record that the problem with our nation is that politics and religion have become intertwined. Although those most aggressive in girdling our freedoms, they seem to rejoice in their white supremacy leanings. They totally disregard the Constitution and seem to want to rule not govern.

Mercury will go retrograde at 29 degrees of Sagittarius on December 2nd. Use caution because there is also a Full Moon on December 3rd at 11 degrees of Gemini. You know the drill about Mercury retrograde cautions:

  1. Do not sign important contracts during this three-week period.
  2. Both aspects, mercury retrograde and the full moon, are crucial for Sagittarius and Gemini, and Pisces and Virgo to a lesser degree. Mercury will go direct December 21st at 13 degrees of Sagittarius.

There will be a New Moon on December 17th at 26 degrees of Sagittarius. New Moons are about New Beginnings. Also affected are the other mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo and Pisces.

Fire Signs

fireARIES (March 20 – April 18)–It seems that every time we put fingers to keyboard to write this column Aries always seems to be hiding in high cotton. With all the Sag planets and Uranus in Aries it is definitely the time of year for you Rams to make your mark. I have been dropping subtle hints here for a long time that it is time to give back and to invest in the Collective as opposing to hoarding or receiving for the self alone. But it is going to be an “Open Sesame” kind of month for you. We here at SI learned a long time ago that we need to care about others besides store up treasures for ourselves.

LEO (July 22 – August 21)–I know that the out-of-bounds in the stratosphere Stock Market has you licking your chops and throwing every sou you have in your bottom drawer into the rising tide of tom-foolery. If you think the market will always go up and since it is at an all-time high I might put my attention to rehabbing my house or cleaning out the garage. This seems like an all-systems go Solar Cycle for you and Lord knows you need some good news. However, Leo would fall for anything and you only feel your oats when you’re winning.  Wait and see what’s next. We are in the smoke and mirrors of a reckless government that only has concern for the rich, richer and richest.

SAGITTARIUS (November 21 – December 20)–Your opportunities as well as cautions are all over your sign this Solar Cycle. Since we are in the neighborhood of the arrival of Saint Nick and parties and presents, you might want to be as judicious as possible with spending. Mercury Retrograde asks that you review and renew commitments to what your soul wants and not your stomach or your ego. The Full Moon is also going to be a challenge as you will feel as if you are in a lineup and no one believes you are innocent. Stay steady and keep breathing because these two aspects will be gone in a few weeks. Learn and change while you can.

Earth Signs

earthTAURUS (April 19 – May 19)–You Bulls are coming out of an adjustment period. No one has nerves-on-edge as much as Taurus. Last month was a very trying time for you because New and Full Moons require more than introspection; you must change how you do a lot of things in your life. With your ruling planet Venus in Sagittarius this Solar Cycle the major requirement for you is to modulate emotions and your reactions to what people say and do that ordinarily would set you off.  Perhaps you might want to take up yoga and set a time daily to meditate. Nothing will take you away from clamor like getting quiet.

VIRGO (August 22 – September 21)–Nothing seems to align for you this Solar Cycle. None of us can stop living but we would not go out into a downpour without an umbrella and we certainly would not try to outrun a tornado in our car. Life is never that dire, until it is. Ask Puerto Rico and Houston. However, you can do what you do at work and at play that is not contingent on the world at large. Don’t tinker in anything risky like the Stock Market even though it seems to never fall into negative territory–until it did on Black Friday 1987. This is a time to revisit old ideas and edit manuscripts and retool and rethink what you would do with better aspects. Keep the faith and stay centered.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 18)–Soon your ruling planet Saturn will be back in Capricorn, joining Pluto. Then the world will see what havoc the extremists have wrought on the world, especially in our own. You Goats are going to be able to legislate and enact what is best for the highest good for all people, not just those who are supposedly privileged and better than the hoi polloi. The caution this month is to stay the course, to continue to lay your best plans for what lies ahead. If people thought 2008 was tough wait until they see the mess Politics has made of things.

Air Signs

airGEMINI (May 20 – June 19)–You Twins are known to be so conciliatory that time to time you forget to consider your feelings and the facts that lie beneath. This month is going to be a hullabaloo for you unless you find mutual ground with those you encounter rather than concede all points of contention. As a Pisces I reluctantly concede that I have learned a lot of practicality from my opposing sign, Virgo. This Solar Cycle it is suggested you see what you can borrow from Sagittarius that will make your life less toxic and far more pleasurable.

LIBRA (September 22 – October 21)–With all the planets in Sagittarius this Solar Cycle you should feel like you not only can breathe but can make progress in things that matter to you.  Mars leaves Libra November 9. You should exhale because Mars can irritate and abrade any chance it can. Overall your chances of moving forward with whatever tickles your fancy are elevated. No one needs to remind you that you are the fair and minded sign of the 12; always remember no matter where are the planets and in what signs, it is innate with you to be kind and considerate. This is a time when all is possible with consideration for all.

AQUARIUS (January 19 – February 17)–This seems to be your Solar Cycle to move into a new career opportunity–if you are willing to take the risk. Some heretofore unsteady times are behind you and it is time to get back to your true self or winning and playing to get to where you need to go. You will be looking at real estate and perhaps making a move into a new home by spring or early summer. There is someone at work who is your biggest fan and could make a huge difference in whether you stay where you are or move on. Trust your instincts.

Water Signs

waterCANCER (June 20 – July 21)–No sign loves stability and love of family and friends more than moon-ruled Cancers. It is your character to be a bit controlling and like the Mother Hen or Papa Rooster. But this Solar Cycle you are going to have to sit on your eggs until they hatch next month because all these Sagittarian planets and lunations don’t fit the profile of what you need. But never forget that there are 12 signs and 10 planets.

SCORPIO (October 22 – November 20)–After the great month you Scorpios just had it may be a bit rockier this month. Mars is in Scorpio from December 9 throughout January 2018. But at the same time you benefit from Jupiter in Scorpio. It is true that Jupiter can fool you into thinking you are a genius with a workable game plan. But Jupiter can also expand your horizons and give you a sixth sense what to do and when to make things work for you. If things slow down as a way to give you more time to think and revise, don’t fret. You are in an incredible Solar Cycle to move into the Winner’s Circle.

PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–Now that your ruling planet Neptune is direct in motion you can expect a lot of what you say and do and write or publish to be highly successful. But with the Sun/Mercury and Venus all in Sagittarius you had best keep a lower profile. Although you are co-ruled by the same planet Jupiter it is the planets mentioned above that can cause you grief. Stay at the drawing board and retool and rewrite whatever if only half-baked. I tell people all the time that anyone can stand adversary for 30 days and that includes you Fishes.

NEW BOOK by Albert Clayton Gaulden
Moments and Windstorms: Take Back Your Power

This ground-breaking book offers an in-depth journey through the author’s eye-opening addiction to alcohol and how he eventually got sober. Gaulden has written a number of books as well as being Founding Director of the Sedona Intensive, one of the country’s most highly regarded alternative personal growth programs.

The author shares all the ways God was leading and guiding him even when he was still drinking. “Most of us look at false paradigms to measure success in our lives. So much of where I went and the jobs I took helped me remember what I was to do as my life’s work.

Gaulden’s book is divided into five parts. Each section explores different parts of his journey, incorporating all the places he’s been, the studies he’s made and the people he’s met. His point of view is that each client who sought his help made him a better person. At the end of the book, he has some daunting but hopeful words about the conditions of the planet Earth and what we need to do to survive as a race.

Couples Who Went to the Extreme to Save Their Marriage
An interview with Carl and Joyce Gioia in RedBook Magazine

When Joyce Gioia couldn’t think of anything else to save her marriage and solve the trust issues that were tearing her and her husband, Carl, apart, she decided to make an investment into what she hoped could be a life-long, loving marriage. They packed their bags and headed to the Sedona Intensive: A $16,000 week-long intensive therapy session that helps people release all self-destructive behaviors.

The purpose of this particular therapy was to help them become stronger individuals, and the counseling was never couple-based. In fact, they only saw each other once per morning at 7 a.m. when they attended a 12-step meeting. The meetings addressed addictions—but it had nothing to do with substance abuse—it was focused on things like work addictions and co-dependence issues.

Between the supervised journaling, visits with renowned mental health professionals, and their genuine will to make things work, Carl and Joyce were able to recover their relationship.

“I believed that the nature and the intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing a resolution in our marriage,” Joyce said. And she was right. By looking at each other as total individuals, they were able to discover what was most important to their spouse and cater to those specific needs. Two years have passed and they’re more in love than ever.

Q & A

RedBook – Explain what the Sedona intensive is.

The Sedona Intensive is a rigorous, weeklong self-exploration. During the week, through concentrated journaling and visits with mental and physical health professionals, we each invested a lot of effort and energy in self-discovery. This self-learning experience is designed and managed by well-respected psychologist Albert Gaulden and includes daily meeting with Albert to monitor progress and ensure results.

RedBook – How did you find out about it?

My brother, who is a nationally acclaimed Emergency Department physician, had gone through this experience with his wife Amber and highly recommended it to us.

RedBook – What did you do at the Sedona intensive?

Every day, we began by attending a 12-Step Meeting with AA. Then, we had a rotating schedule of appointments with a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a yoga instructor, and/or an energy-balancing professional, and of course, Albert. In our “spare” time, we took independent hikes, though the spectacular Sedona canyons.

RedBook – What made you decide to go to this?

We decided to do it, because nothing else seemed to be working to resolve our trust issues. I believed that the nature and intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing resolution of our marriage.

RedBook – How did it change your relationship?

We both worked very hard to discover why we engaged in self-destructive behaviors that stood in the way of our sharing the loving relationship we both thought possible. Two years later, we are more in love than ever before.

RedBook – Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, absolutely, if the two people are prepared to approach the experience with open hearts and minds and they are truly interested in doing the work to strengthen the relationship.

Lindsay, as I said before, “I honestly do not know what else we might have done that would have been so effective in turning the relationship around”.

Joyce Gioia

What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
