Enjoy the Scorpio Newsletter for 2018!

The Signs of the Time–There is a Full Moon on October 24 at 01 degree of Taurus conjunct retrograde Uranus. This could spell double trouble for Taurus as well as early degree Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius. The Mid-Term elections are only a few weeks away, so the upset of the status quo might be brewing.

The Venus retrograde followed by Mercury retrograde is the fly in the ointment this month. I remind folks all the time that nothing in life is worth getting in bed and covering your head. Being alert and alive means challenges happen all the time. Venus retrograde means to protect your emotions as well as being careful about finances. Mercury retrogrades require that we get through all the mechanical and scheduling snafus that always occur during a Mercury retrograde.

Uranus in Taurus and Neptune in Pisces are still retrograde for awhile longer. But Pluto is now direct in motion which gives us the positives of what Pluto represents: rebuild and retool when called for.

Fire Signs

fireARIES (March 20 – April 18)–With your ruling planet Mars in Aquarius all month you should feel a breath of fresh air because you and Aquarius are buddies in the Zodiac. But you do have to contend with Saturn and Pluto squaring you from the Sign of Capricorn. And as said in other signs this month, Venus retrograde is troublesome for Aries as well. The fog between your ears is not personal. All of us are sensing that just when we think this topsy-turvy uneasiness is about to pass, another uneasiness seems to attack. Stay out of harm’s way. Don’t try to tend to somebody else’s business; stay with your own.

LEO (July 23 – August 22)–This is the time of year when you lions and lionesses begin to feel that you are living in the wrong part of the forest. The Sun and Venus in Scorpio does you no good. Your tendency is to expect your vista to be rose colored and lots of fun. What you might do this month is to take an inventory to see where you’ve been and make the corrections to any stinking thinking. No sign more than Leo needs to be reminded to check and change an out-of-bounds Ego. Repair any hurt feelings for starters.

SAGITTARIUS (November 21 – December 20)–On November 17 Mercury goes direct in Sagittarius. You Jupiter-ruled types know the drill–be careful with all written contracts as well as expect delays in travel and out-of-sorts mechanical matters like computers. However, your ruling planet Jupiter will go into Sagittarius on November 8 where it will hunker down for one year. Having gone through Saturn in your Sign a few years ago, you are ready to show the world what that two and a half year run did to refine you and give you a message to preach.

Earth Signs

earthTAURUS (April 20 – May 20)–The bad news for you Bulls this month is that your ruling planet, Venus is in the opposition Sign of Scorpio–and it is retrograde to boot. The downside of Taurus is that you are too stubborn, as well as you tend to live by the almighty dollar. The more precious part of you is that you are loyal to a fault and have the capacity to save and not spend when you come under an aspect like Venus retrograde in Scorpio. A suggestion for thriving under this Venus in Scorpio is to be more open-minded to the other point of view.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)–I have been doing all this planets and Signs in angulation business for ages and the one thing I learned from the best teachers was that your opposition Sign teaches you all you need to know. So, as far as Virgo is concerned, he or she needs to find a bit more compassion and find a new melody to sing with all the trials and tribulations you seem to encounter. As a Pisces I have reluctantly done more than borrow a cup of sugar from my neighbor across the zodiac, Virgo. I now balance my checkbook and tend to details. Virgo, learn to trust that God has a Divine Plan for you today and every day.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)–Your ruling planet, Saturn as well as Pluto are in Capricorn for a lot longer. Saturn asks that you make changes to make the world better for yourself and others. Your efforts will take time and endurance. Many of us want gratification and pay-off instantly; that will not happen with Capricorn and Saturn. Pluto is the planet known for its slow and deliberate destruction of old systems and ideas that needs fresher and bolder ways to think and create. Welcome to your world, my Capricorn friends.

Air Signs

airGEMINI (May 21 – June 21)–When we did an overview for you Twins for this Solar Cycle we discovered that the only bright spot for you is Mars in Aquarius, another Air Sign. Your ruling planet, Mercury, does you no favors in the Sign of Scorpio and when it goes into Sagittarius on October 31 your messenger planet opposes you. Never forget that there are two of you in the Sign of Gemini. Draw on the part of you that accepts the hand life deals you and make do. Look around your life and thank God for health and happiness and the capacity to persevere under all planetary conditions.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 21)–Since you’ve just had 31 days of basking in the Solar Sun it is time to live in the here-and-now reality of the changing line of I-Ching. Mars in Aquarius, another Air Sign, will hold you somewhat in good stead. However, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn squaring you are no help and may have a tendency to be the monkey wrench that slows your momentum more than you’d like. You’ll get a bit of help from Mercury in Sagittarius from October 31 until it goes retrograde on November 17.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–In addition to the ill effects of Venus retrograde and then Mercury retrograde as well, Mars in Aquarius is causing you a lot more grief. Mars makes you feel uncomfortable with minutia, and oftentimes with no provocation, you don’t want to answer questions or generally be as sociable as is your character. The best place for solace at this time is to go inward and find meditation and books that bring peace and quiet to your space. Don’t push the river, as the expression goes.

Water Signs

waterCANCER (June 22 – July 22)–You have been getting powerful blowback from Jupiter in Scorpio as well as Venus in Scorpio. Pay attention that Venus went retrograde October 6 and on October 30 Venus goes into Libra, not the best sign for Cancer. No sign has to make all the adjustments you do because your ruling orb, the Moon goes into a different Sign every two and a half days. But there is a bit of light ahead as the Sun stays in Scorpio this entire month. Enjoy this association and planetary help.

SCORPIO (October 22 – November 20)–This Solar Cycle will test the mettle of you Scorpions as Venus will be retrograde in Scorpio until mid-November. But Mercury will off-set the damage in the sign of Pluto-ruled Scorpio until Mercury goes retrograde on November 17. But the most significant reality of this period is the Sun in Scorpio. No sign bears difficulty quite like Scorpio does. Solving the mystery of planets in signs in angulation is to deal with the tough stuff when it appears. Never bet against Scorpio to persevere this month as well.

PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–All signs, most of all yours, is going to feel off-center and less likely to see rainbows at the end of the day of unusual mind speak. Your ruler Neptune is still retrograde which denies you the expectation of feeling connected to a wisdom source of comprehending what is going on with you. It is as much the nuttiness of the political scene in Washington, D.C. as well as the controllers in your own community that is exacerbating the lack of clarity. Journal your thoughts and also find a quiet space to meditate daily. It is amazing how less troubled you will feel after such a time in silence.

Couple of the Month: Andrew Bell and Liana Afuni

Liana

I never dreamed at a young age that I would move to the U.S from Kuwait, pursue a career in the arts and date someone who was totally different culturally, but shared many of the same values and interests as I did. For a Middle Eastern Woman, you can’t possibly break the mold more than that. From a young age, I’ve always felt like I never “fit” in – As a kid, I had huge glasses that were twice the size of my face (My parents ensured they were made of plastic as to protect my face in the event that I’d fall), I had pigtails to go along with them. I was cute, just like a cartoon character – a very quiet, shy, meek one to begin with. This cartoon character soon grew out of her shell and surfaced full-fledged in fifth grade, whenever the teacher would have us read Harry Potter out loud, I would always put on a voice to read as though I was the different characters. I had fun, and I made all the kids in class laugh, it was may way of getting everyones attention . But that also meant, I was not a “normal” kid, I was always seen as outside-the-box, especially growing up in a country like Kuwait, there were always rules and social norms. When I moved to the U.S at age 17, I also did not quite fit in, I was this girl with Middle Eastern values, a British-sense of humor, and no dating experience under her belt. I was struggling to find out where I fit in within this American culture. After graduating college, I moved to NYC to pursue a career in the arts – I come from a family of over-achievers who excelled in many facets in their life. As an artist, there’s soo much uncertainty, never knowing much of what this business has to offer. I was a starving artist, and I was single – every parents nightmare. I always heard about how tough dating is in NYC, but never realized how difficult it really is until I decided to become a Matchmaker to help pay the bills! I had a notion in my head that I probably needed to date someone who was Arab, because it “would make life easier.” As I continued to work with clients, I realized that many of them got in their own way, and that a “perfect match” existed only in their head. Matchmaking helped me broaden my horizons, it made me stop to think, “why am I limiting myself to just Arab guys?” I then grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down a list of qualities I would prefer to have in a partner – none were super specific, I didn’t care if my partner was “super tall” had “blue eyes” or made “six figures” – none of that mattered to me. I folded it and put it away. Months later, I was introduced to Andrew in an acting class. He then asked me out for coffee – told him I didn’t want to call our outings a “date”, but rather “hanging out” – he didn’t take offense to this, rather he found it funny and obliged. As I got to know Andrew over our ‘outings”, I realized we shared many of the same values and saw the world from a very similar lens. How could two very different people be soo similar? I was the same weird girl, but now someone appreciated it. Appreciated it so much so that we began to develop creative projects together. I now had someone who championed me along this journey, to laugh with and remind me just how much more special life is as a team. Andrew inspired me to own my uniqueness. Remember that slip of paper I wrote down all the qualities I preferred to have in a partner? Andrew was an exact description of each. I didn’t force the universe to respond to what I had asked for, the universe simply delivered and it all felt natural.
With Love,
Liana

Andrew

Life as a creative can be trying. For starters, you’re always on a quest for answers. Those answer often fail to materialize and the projects you create are not only the embodiment of what you’ve found but also a reflection of what you have failed to. The world at large continues to be one big puzzle but the biggest enigma of all is myself. The work I create is strongest when I’m at my most revealing, unpacking as many layers as I can in an effort to understand myself. These traits make dating a losing proposition. At times even a fool’s errand. Mostly because, I’m uninterested in settling down, in being moored to some version of normalcy that would feel insincere and rote. It isn’t so much the loss of physical freedom that weighs on me but rather the fear of losing agency over my own identity and creative growth. In my mind, partnership meant handing back all of the self exploration that I had undertaken and forking over my voice. Infatuation on the other hand was far more to my liking. It was fleeting, euphoric and invigorating. It comprised all of the ingredients I believed would foster my art and keep life enticing. That all changed when I met Liana Afuni. Not only did I not gravitate immediately toward her but I was taken aback by some of her behavior. Her sense of humor was dry, almost insensitive. She was anything but enamored with my creative pursuits. Worse still, whenever we’d get together, she was always in a deep state of “busy”ness. The odd thing about is was that instead of being repelled, I was a moth to a flame. Something about her defiance and apathy made her that much more infuriating and appealing. She would be a tough nut to crack and I was more than up for the challenge. Eventually she opened up, and her true authentic self rose to the surface. It became crystal clear to me that deep inside of her formidable exterior, resided a carefree soul with the joie de vivre of a child. For those lucky enough to get to experience her, she was a sight to behold. Bold, playful and with an unrivaled zest and curiosity for life. Her intransigence was merely a fortification to dispel anybody attempting to extinguish the light from within. Once I realized that such a creature existed, the intoxication returned, and it became my sworn duty to unearth the child within. In so doing we found a wealth of shared interests and fundamentally shared truths. While her upbringing in Kuwait couldn’t be more different from mine, we continue to be amazed by how alike we both are. In that discovery, we worked together to create our first project together. It was a pilot for a T.V. Comedy Drama series called Mismanaged that we hope to find a home for. She produced and starred in it, and I directed. The process was fraught with obstacles and choc a bloc with moments where our bond was tested. We bickered but managed to persevere and grow closer. I’m awed by her resourcefulness, persistence and ability to predict and plan for every possible outcome. I count myself lucky to have her in my life and see each day as more engrossing because she’s there to share it with. The bedrock of why that’s happened is that we both have accepted that in order to be happy, we must continue on our own journey of self discovery. Those paths will often converge but we don’t need to strain to make them fit. Our strength is in our ability to accept our difference and our capacity to love that as much as we love our similarities. There’s also another compelling reason. We both are three days apart. If there’s nothing to astrology, explain that one. Thanks to Albert for doing that for us so that we don’t have to be in the dark. Keep reading folks.

Birmingham Holocaust Education Center Fund Raiser

Although I am not officially Jewish I am a devotee of the Holocaust Center in Birmingham, Alabama. My dear friend Cathy Ovson Friedman made me aware of BHEC and I decided I wanted to make friends of the Sedona Intensive aware of their unbelievably deep and abiding work for the  Center.

I encourage everyone to support this Center’s efforts to educate everyone about the work being done to make sure that through awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust the world will never have to survive such atrocities again.

The Sedona Intensive is making a donation to BHEC for $1,000.00.  Please join us in making a contribution as well.

Love and Gratitude, Albert Gaulden

More from their website: The Birmingham Holocaust Education Center (BHEC) seeks to educate the people of Alabama about the history of the Holocaust so that new generations will apply the lessons of the Holocaust to the construction of a more just, humane, and tolerant future. By preserving and sharing the stories of local Holocaust survivors and commemorating the events of the Holocaust and the lives of those who perished, the BHEC seeks to promote a moral and ethical response to prejudice, hatred, and indifference for the benefit of all humanity.

NEW BOOK by Albert Clayton Gaulden
Moments and Windstorms: Take Back Your Power

This ground-breaking book offers an in-depth journey through the author’s eye-opening addiction to alcohol and how he eventually got sober. Gaulden has written a number of books as well as being Founding Director of the Sedona Intensive, one of the country’s most highly regarded alternative personal growth programs.

The author shares all the ways God was leading and guiding him even when he was still drinking. “Most of us look at false paradigms to measure success in our lives. So much of where I went and the jobs I took helped me remember what I was to do as my life’s work.”

Gaulden’s book is divided into five parts. Each section explores different parts of his journey, incorporating all the places he’s been, the studies he’s made and the people he’s met. His point of view is that each client who sought his help made him a better person. At the end of the book, he has some daunting but hopeful words about the conditions of the planet Earth and what we need to do to survive as a race.

Couples Who Went to the Extreme to Save Their Marriage
An interview with Carl and Joyce Gioia in RedBook Magazine

When Joyce Gioia couldn’t think of anything else to save her marriage and solve the trust issues that were tearing her and her husband, Carl, apart, she decided to make an investment into what she hoped could be a life-long, loving marriage. They packed their bags and headed to the Sedona Intensive: A $16,000 week-long intensive therapy session that helps people release all self-destructive behaviors.

The purpose of this particular therapy was to help them become stronger individuals, and the counseling was never couple-based. In fact, they only saw each other once per morning at 7 a.m. when they attended a 12-step meeting. The meetings addressed addictions—but it had nothing to do with substance abuse—it was focused on things like work addictions and co-dependence issues.

Between the supervised journaling, visits with renowned mental health professionals, and their genuine will to make things work, Carl and Joyce were able to recover their relationship.

“I believed that the nature and the intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing a resolution in our marriage,” Joyce said. And she was right. By looking at each other as total individuals, they were able to discover what was most important to their spouse and cater to those specific needs. Two years have passed and they’re more in love than ever.

Q & A

RedBook – Explain what the Sedona intensive is.

The Sedona Intensive is a rigorous, weeklong self-exploration. During the week, through concentrated journaling and visits with mental and physical health professionals, we each invested a lot of effort and energy in self-discovery. This self-learning experience is designed and managed by well-respected psychologist Albert Gaulden and includes daily meeting with Albert to monitor progress and ensure results.

RedBook – How did you find out about it?

My brother, who is a nationally acclaimed Emergency Department physician, had gone through this experience with his wife Amber and highly recommended it to us.

RedBook – What did you do at the Sedona intensive?

Every day, we began by attending a 12-Step Meeting with AA. Then, we had a rotating schedule of appointments with a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a yoga instructor, and/or an energy-balancing professional, and of course, Albert. In our “spare” time, we took independent hikes, though the spectacular Sedona canyons.

RedBook – What made you decide to go to this?

We decided to do it, because nothing else seemed to be working to resolve our trust issues. I believed that the nature and intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing resolution of our marriage.

RedBook – How did it change your relationship?

We both worked very hard to discover why we engaged in self-destructive behaviors that stood in the way of our sharing the loving relationship we both thought possible. Two years later, we are more in love than ever before.

RedBook – Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, absolutely, if the two people are prepared to approach the experience with open hearts and minds and they are truly interested in doing the work to strengthen the relationship.

Lindsay, as I said before, “I honestly do not know what else we might have done that would have been so effective in turning the relationship around”.

Joyce Gioia

What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
