The Signs of the Time — 2021 started off with violence, rioting, and severe threats to our Democracy. Within days the cooler heads prevailed and President Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris were sworn in. Mercury goes retrograde on Saturday, January 30 at 26 degrees of Aquarius. It will go direct on February 21. Otherwise, all other planets are direct in motion which means pedal to the metal—all systems are working overtime. There will be little drag time.

The best investment that I have ever made…

“I met Albert in late 1991 when my life was a mess and I did not know what to do. I went for an astrology reading reluctantly and at the end of it agreed to do the Sedona Intensive. I was in Sedona January 5-12 of 1992 and did my daily exercises and then continued with the program for 3 months upon returning home. By following Albert’s directions, even when some of it made no logical sense, my life was changed dramatically for the better over the next year. He put me on a path that I never could have imagined and I will be forever grateful for that. This eventually led to my current profession, beginning in 2005, as a life coach assisting clients in making big changes in their lives. The time and money spent with Albert all those years ago is the best investment that I have ever made and gave me insights and tools that I still use today.”

Monthly Insights for the Signs

Fire Signs

ARIES (March 20 – April 19)–Since your ruling planet is in Taurus this month, you may think the gas has leaked out of your tank. You will be required to stop, look and listen and be slow to action. Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius will hold you in good stead as you and the Water Bearers are astrological good friends. Every so often it is good to sit on the sidelines and look and listen before you act.

LEO (July 22 – August 22)–These 31 days you best sit and rock or work a lot of crossword puzzles. The Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn in Aquarius do you no favors because they oppose you. You may have to be less get-up-and-go as all planetary indications are you need to kick back. Go to work but tend to your own business, not somebody else’s. You can work off extra pounds at the gym – just remember to distance and wipe down the barbells. Stay out of crowds and packed rooms. These times of the coronavirus will surely pass, but not soon enough.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20)–Your ruling planet Jupiter is in compatible Aquarius this month. Jupiter and Saturn are also in the sign of the Water Bearer. Venus goes into Aquarius on February 2. Make the most of this month because the dark forces are out and about with the damndest masks and silly pitches like carnival barkers. Distance and wear a mask. Your nature is to run wild in the streets. Pay attention to the life and times of the Pandemic and stay more aware of where you are and what you are doing.

Earth Signs

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)–Mars will be in your sign this month which may make you jittery and unable to make clear and conscious choices. Sun, Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius will all square you so be more conscious than usual how you spend your money. “Neither a borrower nor lender be,” said Shakespeare so these 30 days heed his words. Also, during this Pandemic interest rates are so low it may be time to refinance your house or pull equity out to tide you over during these rocky road times.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)–With Mercury in retrograde beginning January 30th, do not do any of those things that get you into a stuck place or a contract you can’t break. It would be in your best interest as well as peace of mind to take up Hatha yoga or deep level meditation. Read “A Promised Land” by former President Barack Obama to see how the world looks through the thoughts and words of a true servant of the people.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)–Make the most of Venus in Capricorn until February 2nd. You will also benefit with Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. No sign is more able to bear and benefit from all of the hullabaloo going on in the political world at the moment than you are. With the long haul you have made since birth no planet in any sign slows you down long because slow and deliberate is your middle name.

Air Signs

GEMINI (May 21 – June 20)–Mercury for a week or so and Jupiter and Saturn this month are blessing you. Since Mercury goes retrograde on January 30, move into the caution lane. No sign has a tendency to listen to every point of view like you, so let it go in one ear and out the other. There has been so much nonsense and half-truths floating around it would behoove you to stay with what you know. For the young and young at heart, this may be a challenge but to the older set, there is a better place inside you and what you know is true for you.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)–This is your astro-compatible Month with the Sun in Aquarius as well as Jupiter and Saturn. Your ruling planet Venus is in Capricorn until February 2 when it goes into compatible Aquarius. Until then, keep your head down and your heart anywhere but on your sleeve. No sign handles the times we are in better than an even-steven sign like Libra. Keep your settled center and let the rest of the world go by.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–Your innate nature is to care for all Mankind and disavow tyranny and abuse and contempt for the underdog. This month you will be challenged to stick to your principles and not bend or break in the chaos that is up at this time. Mercury will also be in Aquarius for most of the month so you will know when to speak and to whom and when to stay quiet. Jupiter and Saturn will be in Aquarius so make smart choices everywhere.

Water Signs

CANCER (June 21 – July 21)–No sign has the innate sensitivity as do you Moon-ruled Cancers. A teacher once told me that no sign goes through more ups and downs and all arounds quite like a Cancer. The most positive days for you this month are January 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 31 and February 1, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 18 and 19. Most of all use your innate intuition to separate real from fake. Home is still your best place to be during these unsure times.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)–If the world ever needed Scorpio energy this is that time. You will keep to yourself what can’t afford to be trampled on and when the bullies push their way into your tent kick them out. Your ruling Pluto is still in alignment in Capricorn. No sign handles adversity and troubled waters better than you feisty and invincible Scorpios. When trouble knocks, do not answer the door. You have highly advanced intuition, Use it. Don’t trouble, trouble ‘til trouble, troubles you.

PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–Your ruling planet Neptune is in direct motion all month and for months to come. Make sure that you hold on to the best of you. Stay sober and able to discern false from real. There are a lot of sources at this time who are trying to convince and convict. Make sure you know where you stand and stay out of folderol and nonsense manufactured from half-truths and make-believe.

Woman of the Year: Cathy O. Friedman

A friend asked me one day, “how do you do so many things different things in the community?” I answered her that really, if you think about it, all I do is one thing, and that one thing is Human Rights, and also to accomplish Tikkum Olam, to repair the broken world, which my Judaism has taught me.

With these 2 principles in my heart, I have partnered with many wonderful organizations for the last thirty years. They include the YWCA, the Birmingham Jewish Federation, Temple Emanu-El, McWane Science Center, NCCJ, The Birmingham Pledge Foundation, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Breast Cancer Foundation of Alabama, BAO, UAB Minority Health and Research Center, and Birmingham Holocaust Education Center. This work has led to many life-changing opportunities and incredible awards.

I have now retired from my career at City Paper Company, and Paul and I have two daughters, Julie and Kate and their husbands, Jeff and Josh, and our pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is our grandchildren; Talia 18, David 17 Ava 15 Noah 14, Lila 13, Cloe 12, Elle 8, and Chandler 5.

My life has been enriched by every organization and everyone involved with these organizations. Today I spend most of my volunteer time with the BHEC, with the desire to teach the valuable lessons of the Holocaust to all. We can often be seen enjoying the wonderful theatre and cuisine that my hometown Birmingham offers.

Man of the Year: Steve Baker

I have known Steve and his beautiful wife Gwen for several years. They live half of the year in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Steve has been a registered Care Giver in Sedona for several years, taking elderly to doctor’s appointments, to the grocery stores and other kinds of errands. He has been taking me to doctor appointments, to the hospital for surgeries and fixes things around my house and yard. He is Man of the Year because in these times of hardships and the great unknown, Steve represents the kind and gentle life of service that we all can admire and appreciate. I refer to him as the “Good Shepherd” because that is who he is to me and a lot of people in Sedona. Arizona. Put your hands together and acknowledge Steve Baker, truly a good shepherd.

Moments and Windstorms: Take Back Your Power

This ground-breaking book offers an in-depth journey through the author’s eye-opening addiction to alcohol and how he eventually got sober. Gaulden has written a number of books as well as being Founding Director of the Sedona Intensive, one of the country’s most highly regarded alternative personal growth programs.

The author shares all the ways God was leading and guiding him even when he was still drinking. “Most of us look at false paradigms to measure success in our lives. So much of where I went and the jobs I took helped me remember what I was to do as my life’s work.”

Gaulden’s book is divided into five parts. Each section explores different parts of his journey, incorporating all the places he’s been, the studies he’s made and the people he’s met. His point of view is that each client who sought his help made him a better person. At the end of the book, he has some daunting but hopeful words about the conditions of the planet Earth and what we need to do to survive as a race.

What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive

“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.

It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.

I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
